Using a Portable Mobility Scooter

A portable mobility scooter can be incredibly convenient for many users. Many scooters come in models that are easy to either fold up and tuck in the trunk of your car, or disassemble for easy transportation. However, there are certain kinds of scooters where this is just not an option. Bariatrics scooters are one example. Heavier scooters can’t practically be stuffed into the back of your car, and you will most certainly need a scooter lift to make sure you can safely and conveniently transport your mobility aid unit from point a to point b.

Different Types of Portable Scooter

Some portable mobility scooter varietires include not only electric powered scooters, but manually powered scooters. These are largely impractical for those of us suffering from disability, and more suited to people who want to save their feet some soreness when having to walk longer distances. The most common portable scooters are lightweight, foldup scooters. These are smaller scooters, usually having just three wheels, where you can simply snap the handlebars down to the seat for easy transport. However, these are really only cut out for a certain kind of mobility scooter user. If your particular handicap prevents you from any heavy lifting, you may want to look into installing a scooter lift. Even a lightweight scooter is still a scooter, and even the lightest scooters can be too much weight for some people to lift manually. A portable mobility scooter is not for everyone.

Who Could Use a Portable Scooter

The ideal candidate for a portable scooter is someone who is capable of lifting heavy objects without injuring oneself, and who doesn’t want to deal with the hassle of installing and operating a scooter lift. If you live with people who do not have to contend with physically limiting disability and are willing to lend a hand when you need to load your scooter up, there should be no problem in getting a portable scooter and using it to its maximum potential.
