Looking for the best Mobility Scooter Lifts

When you’re looking into mobility scooter lifts, it’s a good idea to ask yourself a few questions first and perhaps to make a list of what you need. The questions you might want to start with include:

Do I actually need a scooter lift?

Believe it or not, many mobility scooters can be disassembled or folded up and tucked right into the trunk of your car or the back seat for easy portability. This might not always be an option, of course. For heavy duty scooters, you’re definitely going to want to look into getting a lift, but for smaller scooters, you might want to give alternative transportation methods a try first.

Just how heavy is my scooter?

Some scooter lifts are built for lighter model scooters and wouldn’t be able to hold a heavier scooter, while others are built for heavier scooters and would go to waste on smaller scooters. If you’ve decided you need a lift, make sure that it’s as right for your scooter as your scooter is for you. You don’t want to get a lift that’s not equipped for your scooter, and you don’t want to go all out when your scooter lift needs are modest.

What vehicle will I be mounting this lift on?

For vehicle mounted scooters, it stands to reason that it’s going to be mounted to a vehicle. Make sure you’re getting the right lift. There are lifts available for vans, trucks, and cars. Whatever automobile you’ll be toting your scooter with, make sure your lift is fit to be mounted on it.

Medicare and scooter lifts

It may be possible to have Medicare cover the cost of mobility scooter lifts. As long as the lift itself is deemed medically necessary, you may want to talk to your doctor about writing a prescription to show to the retailer so that the bill will be sent to Medicare at no cost to yourself.

As with scooters and wheelchairs, though, make sure to get this out of the way early. Medicare will not reimburse a purchase no matter how medically necessary the item is. Medicare will only cover the cost of medical or assistance equipment via a direct bill from the vendor.
