Why Buy a Lightweight Wheel Chair?

A lightweight wheel chair isn’t for everybody. However, a lighter wheelchair can be of great convenience if you don’t need much in terms of maximum capacity. No two bodies are exactly alike, thus there are many different types of wheel chairs to accommodate our bodies' needs.

The wide variety of scooters available to select from reflects this diversity in their users. Obviously, for those of us who are a little larger than your average person, a heavier scooter is in order, but if you feel that a lighter scooter or chair can handle your weight efficiently and safely, there are a lot of benefits to getting a lighter chair.

Maneuverability

Smaller chairs generally have sharper turning capability. This means you won’t have to make any three point turns to get around the corners in your house or turn around 180 degrees. If you do a quick search online, you’re likely to find videos of people showing off just how capable their lighter scooters are by doing complete circles in small spaces.

Portability

Even with a lighter chair, it might be wise to invest in a chair lift for easy transportation just for the sake of convenience. However, many lighter chairs can be folded up or disassembled and then tucked right into the trunk or backseat of your car for travel, or tucked away in the closet when not in use.

Battery Life

A lighter chair, weighing less, will of course require less energy to keep running. A heavier chair can take a bit longer to charge and make a bit of a dent in your electricity bill, but a lighter chair should make a marginal difference, at most.

Again, a lightweight wheelchair isn’t for everybody. If you are dealing with a weight issue, or your weight fluctuates heavily, or you are simply of a larger frame than most people, you really should look into a heavy duty wheelchair, or at least a good, durable, standard model chair.

No matter what your preferences, it’s absolutely imperative that if you need a lightweight wheel chair that you select a chair that suits your needs and fits your body type.
