How to Find the Right
Handicap Wheel Chair Lifts

There are many different types of handicap wheel chair lifts available. Not only to mount a wheelchair on the back of a car or in a van for easy travel, but also lifts for staircases, to allow those dealing with handicaps to easily move about two story homes. There are even more specific kinds of lifts, for example, there are spiral staircase lifts available.

Below we describe some of the more common handicap chair lifts.

Car lift

As the name suggests, this is a wheelchair lift mounted to the back of a car. This isn’t always necessary, as many chairs can even be folded up or disassembled and placed in the trunk, but a car lift is generally a more convenient way to transport a wheelchair than trying to fit the chair inside the car.

Van lifts

These are lifts designed to move a wheelchair in and out of a van. These range in complexity from actual lifts which transport the chair in and out of the side door with hydraulic pumps, to simple ramps that can pop out of the van and allow the wheelchair to slide in or out.

Staircase lift

As mentioned above, staircase lifts are a blessing for handicapable people living in two story homes. There’s no need to give up your dream house to compensate for disability, as many of these staircase lifts are relatively affordable, and many insurance policies will even provide coverage at no cost to the user.

Enclosed telecab

This is really the top of the line in extravagant wheelchair transportation. For some homes, it is a dire necessity, however, the lavishness of the product has prevented it from becoming too common. An eneclosed telecab is a small elevator which transports a person and their chair from one floor of a building to the next.

There are other handicap wheel chair lifts available as well. When shopping for a lift, just keep in mind what your needs are, and make absolutely sure that those needs are being met before making your final selection.
