SCOOTERS

How do I pick out the best scooter for me?

It is easy to determine the best scooter to meet your daily needs, considering your height and weight, your everyday lifestyle, and how often the scooter will be used. You can also use our questionnaires in Buyer University to help you make this decision.

I weigh over 400 pounds; do you have a scooter that will fit me?
Yes, we have the Fusion scooter that has a weight capacity of up to 500 lbs.

What is the difference between a 3 wheel and 4 wheel scooters?
The biggest difference between the two types is that 3-wheelers have a better turning radius as compared to 4-wheelers. This is most apparent in a house or similar confined area. Four-wheeled scooters originally evolved from the need for more stable operation when traveling on slopes or uneven terrain. However, our models of 3-wheeled scooters also boast a very stable ride due to their optimized center of balance.

How do I select a scooter?
To ensure comfort and safety, a scooter first must possess adequate capacity for a person’s height and weight. The second consideration is the environment in which the scooter will be operated. Rough or outdoor terrain may require more power and larger tires, while primarily indoor use may call for smaller tires and a better turning radius. The selection of a scooter that will be transported also may be affected by the limitations of the vehicle in which it will be carried.

How do I select the right scooter for my height and weight?
Each scooter featured on our site includes a list of its specifications. Just click on the model of your choice to view the scooter’s weight capacity and other features. People taller than 6 ft generally require longer models to ensure ample leg room. We have unique custom option to increase the length of the leg room by 3-4 inches. A variety of special sized seats and seat options also are available to ensure safety and comfort.

How do I decide whether I need a scooter or a power chair?
A scooter must be steered and is best suited for individuals with sufficient use of their upper body and arms to operate the handlebars. A scooter also requires more room for maneuvering than a power chair. Finally, a scooter is not recommended for those with a rapidly progressing condition.

How fast will a scooter go?
The speed of a scooter will range from 3 to 6 M.P.H., depending on the model. Scooter speed is controlled both with a dial and through the amount of pressure the user places on the throttle. The specifications chart for each scooter featured on our site includes the speed range for the individual model. Most of our clients like controllability instead of speed.

How long will a scooter operate with a fully charged battery?
Most scooters come with the recommended configuration of two 12 volt, 32 amp Gel batteries. These batteries provide 15 to 20 miles of travel per charge based on average use by a person weighing the weight capacity of that vehicle on a flat surface. Exceeding these conditions will shorten the expected range. Our products have a automatic battery saver feature when not in use for periods of time that will help extend the length of time you have a charged battery. However, most models can be fit with optional larger batteries if more range is needed.

NOTE:Pace Saver scooters are available with the U1 size batteries only. No other battery options are available on scooters.

How long does it take to fully charge the batteries?
Battery charging takes an average of 6 to 8 hours. In addition, most models include chargers with automatic shut off. This feature allows the user to plug in the charger at night and have fully charged batteries by morning.

How Soon Will My New Scooter or Power Chair Arrive?
When you order your vehicle from Personal Mobility Now, your brand new scooter or power chair will be custom built to your specifications and shipped DIRECTLY from the manufacturer to your home in a factory sealed box. Manufacturing times vary depending on your custom request and current demand, but most products take 4-8 business days to build and be tested. Once built and tested, 3-wheel scooters will go by UPS and 4-wheel scooters and power chairs ship via a trucking company such as APA or Yellow Freight. The shipper will usually take 2-6 business days, depending on the distance from the factory to your home. Most customers report receiving their products in about 2 weeks, but it can vary from 1-3 weeks. The shipper will call the day before delivery to arrange a convenient delivery time. When it does arrive you will be excited and proud of your vehicle.

Will It Arrive Fully Assembled?
3-wheel Scooters usually ship to your home in 3 boxes, due to shipping and package size regulations. a) The scooter itself, b) the seat, c) the batteries. The batteries drop in and connect, and the seat slides on to the provided seat post. It only takes a couple minutes to put the unit together, and no tools are required. (Some optional accessories such as mirrors, flags, and canopies are an exception and may have to be attached with tools) We recommend charging your new scooter or power chair overnight before use, as the batteries come from the factory with only a partial charge. Power chairs will ship fully assembled.

How will my scooter do on dirt and uneven gravel?
All of the scooters we designed for a variety of surfaces both indoors and out. However, some are better for outside usage as our Fusion and Eclipse models, otherwise known as a Power Motor Vehicle. (PMV)

Are accessories available for my scooter?
We sell accessories with the purchase of our products only and each product has a list of the accessories available.

Power Wheelchair

How do I pick out the best chair for me?
It is easy to determine the best electric wheelchair to meet your daily needs, considering your height and weight, your everyday lifestyle, and how often the chair will be used. You can also use our questionnaires to help you make this decision.

How steep of a hill will the electric wheelchairs climb?
Our chairs have a higher rating which allows them to safely climb a higher grade up to 16%. However, they can handle steeper grades for short distances.

How steep can I place my ramp for me to walk my chair up on?
Typically a six foot ramp is long enough for loading and unloading from a van or truck.

I weigh over 400 pounds; do you have a chair that will fit me?
Yes, several, we do have a chair for someone over 650 pounds.

How will my chair do on dirt and uneven gravel?
All of the chairs we designed for a variety of surfaces both indoors and out. However, some are better for outside usage such as all of the PaceSaver power chairs as they have Midi wheel drive and are more suitable for outside.

Will the chair breakdown and fit in the trunk of my car?
Based on your needs, we do have chairs that will break down for easy transport. However, our lightest piece will weigh 28-32 pounds which might be difficult for you to do this yourself. If you plan on transporting the chair a lot, than we would recommend you get a lift for your vehicle to make your access easier on you and your family.

What size foot platforms are there?
We have a variety of sizes to fit your needs.

What degree does the seat swivel?
90 degrees left and right

Are accessories available for my chair?
We sell accessories with the purchase of our products only and each product has a list of the accessories available.

General

Are There Any Hidden Charges?
NEVER. We are proud to offer UP FRONT PRICING. By shipping directly from the manufacturer to customer and eliminating the salesperson's commission, we can save you hundreds or even thousands from retail store pricing. We have a high sales volume and low overhead, so we can pass the savings along to you. Many dealers advertise prices which do not include batteries or shipping, so they will give the impression of having a lower price. Our posted prices for shipped scooters and power chairs INCLUDE free airline approved/sealed batteries, free battery charger, and there's no tax for most items.

Does Medicare pay for an electric scooter, power wheelchair or lift chair?
Medicare has certain coverage criteria that must be met before they will pay for equipment. For a scooter or power chair to be considered medically necessary, all of the following coverage criteria must be met:

  • Your condition is such that a wheelchair is required for you to get around in your home,
  • - You are unable to operate a manual wheelchair,
  • You are capable of safely operating the controls of the scooter or power chair, and
  • In addition, a patient who requires a scooter usually cannot perform functional ambulation skills and has limited strength or use of the upper extremities. The patient should also have adequate trunk stability to "hold" themselves upright in the seat.

Note: An individual who requires a power wheelchair is totally non-ambulatory and has severe weakness of the upper extremities that prevents them from self-propelling in a manual wheelchair.

Do you handle Medicare / Private Insurance billing?
Sorry, we can't handle Medicare or insurance claims or billing. This is due to our low pricing.

Medicare or Insurance
Personal Mobility Now is not able to process any insurance claims for any insurance carrier including but not limited to Medicare.

Our primary goal is to serve as a cost effective alternative to retail store prices for those who do not qualify or are denied by Medicare, and are paying from their own funds. If you fit into either of these categories, we can save you a lot of money.

We have been told that it is extremely hard to qualify for Medicare reimbursement and that the process takes many months.

What If I Need Warrantee Repair Service?
We are very proud that we have a very low rate of needing any repair. The warrantee is covered DIRECTLY by the manufacturer - through their network of authorized service centers nationwide, just as if you purchased it locally. All manufacturers have special toll free referral numbers set up to refer you to the closest authorized service centers in your region. While all warrantees cover parts, some do not cover optional travel mileage to your home or labor. If you have questions about a particular manufacturer's warrantee, click on the warrantee link from the model in question to view the details - or email us to ask.

What do you charge for shipping?
Shipping is where you can save lots of money. With you paying only for your shipping cost, instead of getting free shipping at a higher cost due to paying averaging shipping in the total sales price from other dealers.

What about sales tax on the Mobility items?
Many medical equipment products are tax exempt. At this time, shipping from one state to another makes it tax exempt. You would pay no sales tax.

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept Master Card, Visa, Discover, Money Orders, Wire Transfers, personal checks and PayPal.

What kind of warranty do you offer?
Most of our New Mobility products come with two to lifetime limited manufacturers’ warranty. Please refer to product pages for warranty information.

What is a trunk lift?
Trunk lifts are mechanical devices that lift and load scooters, power chairs and wheelchairs into vehicles. They are designed to require little or no lifting or disassembly of the mobility product. Trunk lifts may be fitted to cars, trucks and vans.

What vehicles are best suited for trunk lifts?
We offer a selection of trunk lift models and configurations to accommodate most makes of cars, vans and trucks. However, the vehicle must have adequate space and clearance for the mobility product being loaded.

What is a carrier or outside lift?
Carriers also are mechanical devices that lift scooters, power chairs and wheelchairs. However, instead of loading the mobility product into a vehicle's trunk or cargo space, a carrier secures it to the rear of a vehicle for transport.

What vehicles are best suited for carriers?
Carriers are ideal for vehicles that lack sufficient cargo space for mobility products. Carriers also are recommended for those who want to preserve available cargo space for other uses.

What are the physical requirements for operating a trunk lift or carrier?
Proper use of a trunk lift requires that the operator be stable when standing and have use of his or her upper body. In addition, a carrier requires that the operator have the ability to get into the vehicle once the mobility product is loaded.

Will a trunk lift or carrier cause loss of value or damage to the vehicle?
A properly installed lift or carrier will not create damage or other loss of value to a vehicle. Furthermore, lifts and carriers may be installed on leased vehicles.

What is your return policy?

What products do you sell?

Would I be better off with an Electric Wheelchair or Scooter?
An electric wheelchair has a joystick that works your speed and direction. A scooter will have what is called a driving tiller. The driving tiller has something you “grip” with either hand or just use one to steer with. The tiller also has forward and reverse thumb levers built in and with a special tiller (called a delta tiller), your forward and reverse are applied by squeezing just your fingers as you grip the tiller. Although many people are used to having something to grip to steer with, a joystick (such as what is found on an electric wheelchair) is extremely easy to maneuver once a person gets used to it.

In addition, an electric wheelchair works much better in a home to get through doors and around furniture. The smaller your home, the more it makes sense that an electric wheelchair is your best bet if your usage is primarily in the home.

For outside use primarily, an electric scooter is perfect. While electric scooters work great outside, you will want to make sure that you pick a scooter that works for your size, weight and the terrain you will be using it for. You will also find that electric wheelchairs work well outside. Again, you will want to make sure that you pick a wheelchair that works for your size, weight and the terrain you will be using it for.

What type of warranty do you offer on your products?
Nationwide Parts and Labor on all our products for limited time.

What do you charge for shipping?
We offer free shipping on most of our products on orders over $100 in the Continental United States when UPS ground shipping can be used. The U.S. Non-Continental States and Canada may be charged shipping in some cases, but not all cases and not without giving you a shipping quote first.

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept Master Card, Visa, Discover, Cashiers Check, personal checks, money Orders & Pay Pal in US Dollars.

How long will it take to get my equipment?
All Leisure Lift/PaceSaver products are custom made to order. In most cases, your equipment will be shipped in 4-7 days and the delivery adds another 5-7 days in the Continental US.

Can you explain the best way to care for the batteries in my unit?
If you charge your equipment at night, it should be fully charged by the morning and ready for 4 to 6 hours of continuous driving time. This should get you through the day with no problem. If you do not use your equipment for a long period of time, you should still charge it at least once a week.

If your batteries go completely dead, the charger will not come on and you may need to put some charge into the batteries with another source until your onboard charger goes on. If your batteries stay dead for a long period of time, it can ruin them. The older your batteries get, the shorter your driving time. The average life expectancy of your batteries is one to two years.

What about sales tax on these items?
There is no sales tax charged on any of our electric wheelchairs to states outside of Texas. Texas residents may avoid sales tax with a prescription if medically needed.

Do you handle insurance?
We are here for the uninsured and stores that bill insurance companies. We do not bill insurance. We sell our products at a large discount to people that do not have insurance or do not meet the criteria for the insurance they have or Medicare.

What if I am not covered under my insurance for the product I need or do not have insurance?
We offer a tremendous savings over the normal retail prices on all our products.

What is your return policy?
Other than returns under warranty, if you are not happy with the product you received, the following would apply: You would be responsible for the shipping & handling of the product to and from your location at your expense as well as a 20% processing fee. We will give you credit toward your account after the equipment has been returned in its original condition. Sorry, we can not take any returns on customer orders under $500 or products that you have had for over 7 days.
