Why We Opened this
Online Mobility Scooter and
Power Wheelchair Website

My wife, Johnnie Sue, and I want to explain how and why we got into the handicapped scooter and wheelchair business and built an online-only electric scooter and power wheelchair dealership.

I've been disabled for over 5 years, and have a hard time walking more than 50 to 75 feet without sitting for a while. Part of this is due to being 6' 11" tall and 388 lbs., but the main problem is having multiple medical conditions that affect my bones and organs. Being obese magnifies these other problems.

We are fortunate that our grown children and their families want to take a family vacation with us every year, and we love taking advantage of the opportunity, which many people don't have. I usually rent a motorized scooter so I can be as mobile as they need me to be.

We visited Disney World a couple of years ago. They treat people with wheelchairs or scooters like royalty, putting us in front of the lines. Our grandkids thought that was very "cool".

I had declined in mobility to the point where it became time for me to find a scooter to own. I could use it for trips away from home for groceries, visiting the mall, going out to restaurants, and just about anywhere walking is involved. So I started researching to find the ideal mobility scooter for me.

Discouraging Experiences

First, I visited my local medical supplies store and found they only wanted to talk about the brands they sell, regardless of whether it was the best vehicle for me. My questions about other brands were either not answered completely, or they said they didn't know anything about them.

Second, I made a bigger mistake. I made an appointment with the local representative for a national scooter brand to come to our home to demonstrate their scooter and answer all my questions.

After showing up 30 minutes late, he started his sale pitch for a scooter that cost more than double what I had intended to pay. When I stated that his company had said I could purchase a unit for a certain price, he got this glassy-eyed look and said that was for an "one year old or used model".

High Pressure Salespeople

When I told him that if the company had told me the price I'd have to pay for their scooter, and that the price range I mentioned was for an older or used unit, I would not have made the appointment. He looked shocked and started putting away his sales material.

I then made another mistake. I asked if we could see the scooter, as long as he'd come this far. Then it was time for me and my wife to be shocked. He said, "I don't bring a scooter to demonstrate, except for people that buy!"

You can imagine my discouragement. So, I decided to do my own research online, and found that all the dealers just had product websites without any information to let you know how various scooters and wheelchairs compared on things like stability and safety.

You could also tell they wanted just to make a sale, because the only brands they talked about were also offered for sale on their websites.

The Solution

That is how we arrived at the decision to open an online scooter and wheelchair store. We have other successful businesses on the internet, and understand what folks are looking for -- unpressurized, accurate information to make an informed buyer decision.

If you find this website beneficial to your buying decision, we'd love to hear from you. Just click on Contact Us and tell us your thoughts.

Being an informed buyer and buying directly from the
manufacturer saves you thousands of dollars.

We look forward to helping you be more mobile.
